In 1985, Gerrit Noordzij published the book The Stroke, in which he formulated a theory for how letters are formed and the relationship between the different
techniques.
In 1992, Adobe launched the Multiple Master font format, aiming to emulate the inherent sizes of physical type.
In 2016 OpenType 1.8 was released, with Variable Font technology. With it type designers can
interpolate between several master designs on several axes.
This is an exploration of this technology. It was made by Benjamin Gaupset at Westerdals in 2017.
